Raja learning to Read & Write Punjabi

Manya Jain, a Young Leader at Sanjhi Sikhiya, during her visit to government primary schools in Chamkaur Sahib, crossed paths with Raja, a migrant student from Bihar, who was struggling to understand anything at school. Manya’s curiosity led her to his teachers, and she got to know how Raja was struggling to attend school. On one hand he wanted to study but the financial condition at home made him do petty work in the village. This affected Raja’s attendance and academic enthusiasm, deeply impacting his educational experience.

Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Manya initiated a collaborative effort, engaging Raja’s teachers and family in an endeavor to provide him with all the support which could help him attend school and with thoughtful adjustments to his schedule, Raja’s journey underwent a profound shift and he become regular at school. His participation in classroom activities, once muted, blossomed into active engagement. Three months of regular attendance at school and Raja has learnt a new language, Punjabi. Now, he can read and write Punjabi, gradually dissolving his status as ‘a migrant student’.

Manya’s intervention underlines the potential for positive change when empathy, collaboration, and dedicated effort converge. Raja’s journey stands as an embodiment of the wider mission — to help every student overcome challenges and embrace their learning journey with strong determination. Through initiatives like Manya’s, we are reminded of the enduring impact that dedicated individuals can make in shaping the futures of the next generation.

In the narrative of Raja’s journey, we glean a poignant lesson about the critical importance of addressing the distinctive educational needs that migrant students confront.
